April Socks FINISHED

FINALLY I can blog about one of my pairs of April socks (I don't have a picture of the other pair... yet).

These socks...

were finished and mailed to my Bloomin' Feet pal in April, but Canada Post took (what seemed like) an eternity to deliver them.

And another

Though I finished these a week ago, I've been quite lazy about posting.

For hubbo: 1 skein Trekking in an unknown colorway, and some leftover Paton's Kroy for the toe of sock #2.

Maybe I'll finally be more productive in May?

Wait for me!

My April socks are done, but it's a photo finish!

Sorry for the blurry - it's dark outside!

Project Specs:
Pattern: Elfines by Anna Bell from My Fashionable Life
Yarn: Claudia's Hand Painted in Eat Your Veggies
Needles: 5 US size 0 (2.25 mm) metal dpns
Size: CO 24 stitches at the toe in a figure-8 cast-on and increased up to 64 stitches (as written) for a ladies medium (US size 7 1/2)
Started: 16 March 2007
Finished: 30 April 2007
Pattern Mods: I didn't feel that the socks were quite secure enough with just a garter cuff, so did 4 rows of garter (knit, purl, knit, purl) followed by 10 rows of 2 x 2 rib, followed by 4 more rows of garter (knit, purl, knit, purl). I used Grumperina's super stretchy bind-off.

No photo essay until tomorrow!

April Socks - Mexicali Peppers

Mexicali Peppers - April

Yarn: Mexicali Peppers by Perchance to Knit
Pattern: Gentleman's Fancy Stockings by Nancy Bush in Knitting Vintage Socks
Needles: Size 1 US Knit Picks circs
Modifications: Cast on fewer stitches

I almost didn't finish these socks. I lost the faith. When I got to the heel of the second sock I was convinced I didn't have enough yarn to finish so I put them aside and knit a different sock. After finishing that sock and realizing it didn't fit, I returned to this sock and figured I'd go as far as I could and then come up with a solution. I ended up with more than enough yarn without having to change anything.

I love these socks. The yarn was so bright and cheerful. It got me through a very dreary, rainy April. The pattern is fun and easy and makes for a well fitting sock.

I'll post more details on my blog tomorrow.

Same Day, Different Sock!

I managed to finish one of my other pairs of socks today while I was riding around in a car and hanging out with some knitpals!

FO: Thuja

The pattern is Thuja, from Knitty, and the yarn is Artyarns Supermerino #102. I have 7 grams left from each ball (14 total)... so it was getting kind of close there. :)

April socks

Two pairs of socky socks for April.
IMG_1808

1x1 ribbed cuff and 2x2 ribbed leg with stockinette foot

IMG_1818

Embossed Leaves sock - yes, I broke down and bought Favorite Socks.

Strange how both pairs are done in purple yarn and I'm morally against purple and all the evilness it may be associated with it! Just kidding!

Well, it is true I'm not a huge fan of purple typically (I mean, AT ALL!), but both pairs were gifts for other people, and colors were in fact pretty.

That's all for now,

April Socks!

Woohoo! I didn't think I was going to make it, but I FINALLY finished this pair of socks! I've been working on them on and off for a few months, actually.

Ravenclaw Socks

The yarn is Sunshine Yarns Ravenclaw, and the pattern is just a simple stockinette pattern over 64 stitches. I'm so happy to have these done! :)

April socks done

I finished these socks for my daughter while we were away on holidays.

They are just plain stocking stitch. (It's all I could manage at the time, after all there was so much other stuff to see and do.)

Using Lornas Laces sock yarn in Rainbow and 2.50mm Addi turbo circs.

She loves how bright and colourful they are, and actually so do I. Which is just as well considering I have the same yarn for myself. LOL

My April Entry

Here are my April socks. They are made with left over Opal yarn (the same I used to make my Lacy Trellis socks earlier this year). These are done in the Butterfly Rib pattern.

I know they aren't identical twins (the one on the right was made first), but that is because I was forced to wind the yarn in a ball by that time and the colours became backwards - naturally. Also, had I tried to start with the same colour pattern, I would have wasted half of what I had left, and then there would have been no second sock. As it was, I was worried that I wasn't going to have enough yarn left to finish the second one; but, as you can see in the picture, there was a little bit left...not much though. So, a 100g skein of Opal yarn made 1 pair of adult sized socks, and one children's sized pair of socks.

The legs on these are only 3" long, so it is a shorter pair, but that's ok. Had I made them the normal 4" length I usually do, there is no way I would have had enough yarn to finish the second sock.

Second April Pair

As soon as saw this pattern I just had to make these. They were a birthday present for my housemate - who has already requested another pair.

Pattern: Jack Sparrows Favourite Socks / Wendys Generic Toe-Up
Yarn: Lorna Laces Shepherd Sock - Camoflauge and Natural
Opal Uni - Brown
Needles: Clover Takumi Bamboo 2.5mm
Modifications: As I am knew to toe-ups I used Wendy's Generic Toe-Up patterns as reference for short-row toes/heels. I also added more length before knitting the skull pattern.

These were great fun to knit and already have the second pair planned - using some Socks That Rock - Obsidian I have ordered.

Two pairs for April

I surprised myself by finishing two pairs in the first weeks of the month!

These were started in March for Project Spectrum, but I finished a few days too late for the blue-gray-white phase. I still love the colors, though. Details and more pictures are here.

These maroon-and-gold socks were supposed to be a hat, but when I sat down, the yarn turned itself into socks. They were not without problems, as I accidentally knit one leg shorter than the other and needed to perform sock surgery.

Happy Socknitting! : )
