Under The Wire!

I finished these up about 1/2 an hour ago, so they should count for March (don't think I have that one yet...forgot to look). These are made with Knit Picks Simple Stripes in the "storm" colourway. I used the Chevron pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. These socks look like they'd fit a stick figure, they're so skinny. But they'll stretch some. They're made in a children's size 2-4.

I put off posting these socks because I was hoping to finish another pair this month. But that won't happen, so here's my March pair!

Sisters' socks

Olaf has been a friend for many years now.
He has two girls, aged 4 and 7 years, and I wanted to knit the first socks for them.

I decided to use the same wool so that they won't fight about the nicest pair.



I used "Streifen-Jaquard" from Wolle Roedel (Germany). I'm very glad that the girl liked the socks and that the socks have the right size too. The next socks for them - which I hopefully will show in April - are already on my needles.

March Socks

Finally finished these socks, which will be in a Dulaan package later in April. They made a very dense, soft fabric and should keep a child's feet very warm.

Bamboo Socks Complete

This is my second pair of socks for March. Two pairs in one month is a first for me, and probably only because there were 31 days in this month!

Blue Bamboo Zephyr Socks

Yarn: Regia Bamboo Color 1061
Needles: Addi Turbo Lace size 1 US; (2) 24" circulars

Modifications: I knit these from the toe-up using Judy's Magic Cast-On. I kept the sole stitches to 26, but increased the instep stitches to 36. On the heel flap, I made sure I ended up with 27 stitches before starting the leg and kept the 36 stitches from the instep to end up with a total of 63 stitches on the leg section. The original pattern has 52 stitches, so I definitely had to take time to do recalculations to fit this yarn to my size 8 foot.

Notes: I'm going to confess my shortcomings that I chose the wrong pattern for this yarn and the wrong needles for this yarn. Independently I'm sure I would love each item, but together spelled misery for me. This pair of socks took a month to knit and they should have taken no more than 2 weeks. By the way, the jogless bind-off worked BRILLIANTLY! Thanks again Amber.

March Socks for myself

I love knitting very much but I always knit for other persons. I don't have socks I knit on my own. But with this pair everything changes. ;)



The wool is a "no name" yarn I bought at ebay but I'm quite sure that it is made by Opal/Germany.
I finished them on March 20th.

When I saw these frills (is this the correct word?) for the first time, I knew I had to give it a try.
I like how it came out and so I'll keep the socks for myself.

Second March Socks done

I managed to get a second pair of socks done for March.

They are 'Embossed Leaves' found in the new Interweave Knits Favourite Socks book.

I used maple coloured yarn by L2K and a mixture of circular needles and dpns. I changed the heel because I didn't like the original one.

I found these easier to knit than I thought they would be (once I figured out how to do the cast on!)

Socks! March!

Wow, just under the wire. I was hoping to have something more interesting to show for this month, but I just didn't get done the Embossed Leaves socks that I am working on in time. So, in lieu of that, here are my March socks. They have been finished for about a week now, but I didn't get around to taking pictures until today. These are my "purse socks". I always have a pair of socks in my purse for working on whenever I have to wait somewhere, sit through a meeting, or travel somewhere (if someone else is driving of course). These will be a gift for my Mom's b-day in July.

Pattern: Vanilla Toe Up Socks (worksheet from Summer 2006 Knitty) - this is the best thing for any size toe up socks!!
Yarn - Trekking XXL (I have no idea what color as I lost the band)

March Socks

Socky socks for March: I made two pairs, well, technically, a pair and half.

   Yukon Leaves socks - this was a product of multiple setbacks. Started with a failure, frogged and restart. Then had to retract several rows because of one stupid mistake (one stitch was purled when it should have been a knit stitch), then my needle broke. After putting it on hold for nearly a month, I finally got back to it and finished, so tada, here it is. I used my brand spanking new Addi Lace needle to finish the socks and I gotta tell you, it's fantastic! I love the flexible cable (more flexible than typical Addi Turbo) and sharp enough tips, not like life-threatening sharpness. It definitely replaced Addi Turbo for my default go-to sock needles. Love it.

And who could say no to knitting a pair of mindless stockinette socks? Again, done with Addi Lace, the yarn used is Sassy Stripes from Cascade Yarns with simple cuff down construction.

The yarn was picked out for the intended recipient so I hope she likes it. If she doesn't, well... *shakes fist*

Itty Bitty Socks for March

These will likely be my last completed pair for March, and boy were they fun!

Swipper No Swipping!

I know I already have one pair done for March but I thought I would post the second pair I finished while on vacation.

I named these the Never Ending Socks as it seemed I would never get them done. No matter how much I tried to make time to work on them I constantly had to put them down to work on something else more urgent.

Furthermore, these socks were actually supposed to be for me! So of course I had to finish them!
However, you know how some things don't turn out the way you want them too? I was showing my mom the socks the other day to point out the flaw in the stripping.


Can you see it? Look closely, notice the brown? That is right, missing an entire brown row! I didn't notice this until the entire sock was finished. Then, considering that I was using the stripes as the measurement for when to start my toe decrease, one sock is a little smaller than the other. I was willing to live with this little mistake to finally have my first pair of handknit socks but my mom saw it another way.

Like Swipper the Fox, she quickly reached out her hand and snagged the socks out of mine and shoved them in her robe...declaring them hers! All she needed to say next was "You're Too Late! You'll never find your precious socks now!"

One one hand, I am totally flattered; but on the other, I am totally pissed! I wanted those socks! Oh well, what is done is done. She did put the socks on immediately and let me at least take these pictures of them before she took them away forever. So, my 2nd March socks have come and gone, just like my first March socks.

Maybe I will get to keep April's socks. I just won't show ANYBODY!

Anneh's March Pomatomi are done!

This pattern was fairly easy, if you follow the chart religiously. I did make a few mistakes and had to tink back, but they were worth fixing!

March socks!

I finished my March socks with plenty of time to spare:



Pattern: Ripple Weave sock by Charlene Schurch, from the Fall 06 issue of Vogue Knitting.
Yarn: Fleece Artist Merino. It was too busy for the pattern, but I still like the way it came out.
Needles: 2.75 mm bamboo DPNs. I usually use 2.25 mm for socks, but I wanted big fat ones. They're very comfy.

My March socks are done.... These were made for my eldest son, Chris.

I named them 'Commando Socks' for the colourway of the yarn used.

The pattern is my own, but it's just a variation of double rib.

Auntiemichal's March Socks are Done!

Wendy's Toe-Up Socks pattern with my own experimental ribbing (K3, P1, K1, P1) and EZ's sewn bind-off. Knit Picks Essential Tweed in Flint on size zero needles. The yarn was a bit splitty on the sharp bamboo needles I used. This is my first pair of toe-up socks and I haven't decided whether or not I like this method; the jury's out until I wear them for a while. Since I have small feet, I've had plenty of yarn left over on all the socks I've knit so far (only four pair!).

Added note: sorry about the picture added late and the duplicate entry. I don't know what happened (blogger weirdness? operator error?) but hopefully it's fixed now.
