February Socks

I've finished a few pairs this month, but many of them were test knits that I can't blog about. However, this final pair is a gift for a friend. :)



I've enjoyed seeing all the completed socks!

Three pairs of February socks

I finished three pairs of socks in February. Here they are:

First, we have a pair of men's 3x1 ribbed socks made with Trekking XXL in color 69.

Next up, we have another pair of men's Trekking XXL socks, this time in plain stockinette and in color 62.

And last but not least, we have a pair of mock cable ribbed socks made with Webs' new sock yarn, called Franklin, in the color Chutney. I really like this yarn. It was not at all splitty and held up well to a lot of ripping.

February socks

I just flipped my calendar page and realized that still needed to post my February socks!

These are Monkey socks from the latest Knitty knit in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight: Rhodonite. These were for a sock swap I did last month.

And here are some "Child's First Socks" from the Knitting Vintage Socks knit in Louet Gems Pearl.

My F socks are done!
Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in the Bright Charcoal colorway
Needles: ChiaGoo Bamboo DPN's - size 2.75 mm
Pattern: Simple stockinette sock over 60 stitches
Dates: Saturday February 3-February 28
Mods: n/a
Thoughts: This yarn is a delight - very soft and squishy, with a lovely stretch. That said, I'm not crazy about most of the colors. I'm hoping they expand the line. These will go with many of my outfits, as I tend to wear a lot of black and grey in the winter. I knit them on the 2.75 needles, as the yarn seemed thick in the skein. If I knit another pair, I'd probably go down to 2.5 or 2.25. I was nervous about my yardage (only 280 meters in a skein), so I knit a 6 inch cuff instead of my usual 7-8 inches. I had plenty of yarn left over.

Just in time!

An hour before midnight, I finished my February socks!



Pattern: Just my plain sock recipe
Yarn: Knit Picks Simple Stripes. It was my first time knitting with it and I quite enjoyed it.
Needles: Knitpicks circulars, 2.5 mm. It was actually my first time knitting two socks and once on two circs. It was nice to finish both socks at the same time but I don't think I'll give up my DPNs anytime soon. :)

Just Squeezed In

Yay! I barely made it, but here are my finished socks for February. I had already decided to knit a pair of socks each month, so I hope this encourages me further.


Pattern: I Dreamed of Africa socks
Yarn: Cherry Blossom Fibers in "Blue Flash" (100% Superwash Merino, 460 yds)
Needles: Addi Turbo size 2.5mm 40" circular

I modified the pattern slightly, if you want to see the changes I made check them out here. These socks also qualify for Project Spectrum. :)

February... Check!

Here they are - my finished February socks! I used leftover OnLine sock yarn to knit a pair of toe up socks for my son, sized about a child's 12/13. I followed the tutorial found here for my first ever pair done toe up. It was great - I loved that I could have two balls the same size, and just knit until I ran out of yarn. :0) In this case, my son's feet have gotten bigger than I realized, so they are more ankle socks, but he's happy, and it was a great learning experience.

I've totally changed gears for my March socks, and am knitting a ladies pair of wool socks. I'll let you all know how it progresses.

February Socks finished

I managed to finish these socks for my Niece yesterday. I had some problems with the original pattern not working with the heel flap. So in disgust, I frogged them. They were re-started last Tuesday. I can't believe that I finished them so quickly.

The pattern is Tech Guy using Opal Dr Fish yarn.

February socks

After few turmoils, I finally managed to finish a pair of socks. February hasn't exactly been the easiest for me, knitting wise. Broken needle? Check. Brand new circular needle that turned out to be defective? Check. Wrong gauge? Double check!

So kill the time in between all the frustration of all the projects gone wrong, I decided to make a pair of knee high with larger needle with leftover yarn.

It's somewhere between sport/dk weight yarn, done in 3.25mm needles, toe up with afterthought heels. It took constant trying on and off to make sure to keep up with the shape and fit, as well as the length.

Even though this wasn't exactly what I had in mind to make in the beginning of the month, but I think it worked out just fine at the end. I used up the left over yarn (which wouldn't have been enough to make anything else useful), and kept me busy enough to stop obsessing over my poor broken needles.

Two February Pairs

Hiya, I'm new to SAM, but not to socknitting. :)

Earlier this month, I finished a pair of Mermaids.


And two days ago I completed some Fluted Banisters. These are extra special because the yarn was gifted by a secret pal last summer, and because these were unintentionally a UFO for quite a while.

Finished Socks

Thanks to Melbourne's weather (hot and/or humid) there's not been much knitting of late chez OzKnitter.

However, these are finished...



Yarn: A Christmas pressie. It's Pink Cottage yarn, exclusive to Fringe

Needles: 2.50mm and 2.25mm bamboo DPNs

Pattern: Garter Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks

Thoughts: I loved this yarn! The subtle colour variations are a delight. When I first saw the yarn, it looked blue with occasional green and burgundy splotches. In actuality there are blues, greens, purples, pinks, burgundies and a little brown; simply gorgeous. Interestingly one sock is "bluer" and the other more "coloured", showcasing the reason why I, and many sock knitters, love handpainted yarn... no 2 socks are alike (even when knitted from the same skein).

Auntiemichal's February socks ...

... are done!
Knitted on size 2 bamboo needles with Kumo'Socki handspun wool from YarnTails in Ashland, Oregon. I bought this and another skein in a lighter colorway at at Circle of Yarns in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Here's a close up view. The yarn is single ply, and the stitches show a distinct tendency to narrow on one side. Doesn't affect their warmth or softness, though!


The sock blockers are made from two plastic-coated wire hangers as shown here.

Purple cabled socks!

I JUST finished these, Just in time to wear them to knit night tomorrow, I'm so excited!

These are my second pair of socks (I've knit other sock like items with worsted yarn, but these are my second sock yarn socks) and I'm getting much better at perfecting the fit and design that I like!

The stats:
Yarn: Knit Picks Essential Tweed in Plum
Needles: HiyaHiya US size 2 (2.75mm) 40" circulars.
Gauge: 9 stitches and 11.5 rows per inch
Method: Toe up, Turkish cast on 30 sts, increased to 77, short row heel over 38 stitches, (11, 16, 11)
Pattern: 3x3 cable with moss stitch from page 68, "Sensational Knitted Socks" by Charlene Schurch, and eye of the partridge pattern over heel stitches.

Je Suis Finis!

Well I not only finished my first pair of February Socks but I FINALLY finished these socks for a friend who I told would have her socks last Aug. I know, I have been a bad friend. But, now they are done and I can cross it off my list of things to do. What a relief!

These are made out of 1 and a half balls of Regia Yarn which was purchased on my CRAZY TRIP to Indianapolis in Aug. of last year. Since these socks are sooo late, I decided to make a smaller version of the larger ones for my friends little four year old daughter. You know, so she could match mommy. (everybody together...awww)

Alrighty, on to the next pair. I have two more to finish before the end of the month. One is actually for me! Do you think I can do it. Sure I can....I am Yarn Thing! (I know, stupid...it even sounded stupid in my head and I still wrote it...getting too late :-)
