At the last minute, my March socks!

Here are my March socks! I knit these for my husband. The pattern is one I found in Nicky Epstein's hat book, it's her reversible diagonal rib pattern. I knit these socks on size three needles using Knit Picks Palette yarn.

Just finished

March socks, also my Socktopia entry.

Started them at the begining of the month but had to stop as I was joining in the Sock Madness.
Which mean's I've managed to finished 3 pairs of socks this month, I'm soooo chuffed.

My First Post / Entry

Hello!

Whew! Made it in time for the March entry, and with a few hours to spare!

I've been knitting socks for only a few months but I'm, like the rest of you I suspect, totally addicted! The socks I've posted here are a modified version of the "Slouch Socks" from Socks, Socks, Socks. They have an Eye of Partridge heel and were knit on little Brittanys: size 1 1/2 double points. The yarn was hand dyed by a friend and is Superwash Morino and Nylon. Isn't it beautiful!

In the coming months, I'll be looking forward to the group's inspiration and motivation to make that goal of knitting a pair a month. Thanks Sock a Month Knitalong!

Under The Wire!

I finished these up about 1/2 an hour ago, so they should count for March (don't think I have that one yet...forgot to look). These are made with Knit Picks Simple Stripes in the "storm" colourway. I used the Chevron pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. These socks look like they'd fit a stick figure, they're so skinny. But they'll stretch some. They're made in a children's size 2-4.

March Socks!

Here are my March socks. These are the second pair I have ever knit! I used a 5 stitich repeat - toe up pattern from Sensational Socks. Instead of a patterned stitch I used a k3 p2 rib. The more complicated patterns just did not show up using this yarn. It is too colorful! The yarn is Regia Bamboo Color - Jamaca. I love it. They look great with jeans. This yarn is 45% Bamboo, 40% Wool, and 15% Polyamide.

3 Pairs for March

I did not to bad for this month, 3 pairs and 2 are giftees. First knit were the baby socks for my Favorite Color Swap2 pal using Artyarns Ultramerino. The pink & green are STR Watermelon Tourmaline for my Sockret Pal and last but not least my Knit Off socks in Koigu. Those babies were started Sunday morning(yes, late start) and finished at 2 am Tuesday morning. Now I know if push comes to shove and I need a quick gift I can whip up a pair of socks in 2 days, lol.

cutting it a little close...

With mere hours to spare, I finished off my pair for March. I knit the Child's First Sock in Shell Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks. I used 2 skeins of Koigu (colorway 1160). Modifications included one extra repeat on both the cuff and instep, as well as a short row heel. I'm quite pleased with them... :)

By the skin of my teeth - March socks

You'll just have to trust me on this one - these are two different socks. I can't photograph them together because one's at my house, the other at my Mum's and I've just finished them in time to count as March socks! They are the Falling In Love socks from the February issue of Magknits, made in Lucia sock yarn from Posh Yarn. It would have helped immensely if I hadn't put up my knitting for 2 weeks in the middle of the month, but due to a marathon over the past week I got there in the end - just.

Bad sock knitter!

I finished these Dublin Bay socks about two weeks ago and never got around to taking the picture. (Sheer laziness kept me from posting. That and my example of embarrassment of the worst grafting evah! Seriously bad.)

Anyway, the yarn is Trekking and I followed the pattern except that I did a plain heel flap and Dutch heel. (Shoot...I didn't take pictures of the cool heel. I like the Dutch heel. I'll do that one again soon.)

My boys call these the "Ice Cream Socks."

Baby Crazy!

Well, my son and his girlfriend are expecting their second child. They found out a week ago that it is a girl!!! She is due at the end of May and so I started knitting up teeny tiny socks! I have been wrapping them to give to them on Easter when I see them and forgot I needed to get a picture for this knitalong! Lol! So here is one pair, I made four pair over the week, each pair looking much better than the last!

Now back to the regularly scheduled sock on the needles program.

Sisters' socks

Olaf has been a friend for many years now.
He has two girls, aged 4 and 7 years, and I wanted to knit the first socks for them.

I decided to use the same wool so that they won't fight about the nicest pair.



I used "Streifen-Jaquard" from Wolle Roedel (Germany). I'm very glad that the girl liked the socks and that the socks have the right size too. The next socks for them - which I hopefully will show in April - are already on my needles.

Finally finished these socks, which will be in a Dulaan package later in April. They made a very dense, soft fabric and should keep a child's feet very warm.

Bamboo Socks Complete

This is my second pair of socks for March. Two pairs in one month is a first for me, and probably only because there were 31 days in this month!

Blue Bamboo Zephyr Socks

Pattern: Zephyr Socks
Source: Domesticat
Yarn: Regia Bamboo Color 1061
Needles: Addi Turbo Lace size 1 US; (2) 24" circulars

Modifications: I knit these from the toe-up using Judy's Magic Cast-On. I kept the sole stitches to 26, but increased the instep stitches to 36. On the heel flap, I made sure I ended up with 27 stitches before starting the leg and kept the 36 stitches from the instep to end up with a total of 63 stitches on the leg section. The original pattern has 52 stitches, so I definitely had to take time to do recalculations to fit this yarn to my size 8 foot.

Notes: I'm going to confess my shortcomings that I chose the wrong pattern for this yarn and the wrong needles for this yarn. Independently I'm sure I would love each item, but together spelled misery for me. This pair of socks took a month to knit and they should have taken no more than 2 weeks. By the way, the jogless bind-off worked BRILLIANTLY! Thanks again Amber.

March Socks for myself

I love knitting very much but I always knit for other persons. I don't have socks I knit on my own. But with this pair everything changes. ;)



The wool is a "no name" yarn I bought at ebay but I'm quite sure that it is made by Opal/Germany.
I finished them on March 20th.

When I saw these frills (is this the correct word?) for the first time, I knew I had to give it a try.
I like how it came out and so I'll keep the socks for myself.

Here are my Central Air socks hot off the needle and straight onto the scanner bed. Knitted with wildfoote (colourway Symphony) from a Blue Moon pattern. Loved the way the yarn knits, really enjoyed knitting the pattern, which was simple to remember, and adore the socks. I just wanted to let you all know I did finish a pair of socks this month! Just today. But I can't show a picture yet as they are a gift/suprise as part of a swap and I suspect the one who they are for is part of this KAL, so I have to wait till they are recieved to post a picture!

If the host/mom wants proof I can send a picture privately! :D

Hopefully I'll have more socks to show of the coming month!

Another pair of March Socks

I almost forgot to post this third pair of socks for March. This pair was knit for Round 2 of Sock Madness and finishing them in less than 2 days landed me in Round 3. I've seen who my opponent is for round 3 and I'm guessing I won't make it to round 4 :(

Bayerische Socks

Well, the March pair is completed. It's Bayerische Socks by Eunny Jang. And the pattern is fantastic. Wonderfully described and well written, it was a joy to knit. But it took a while considering there are just over 90 stitches for a round and 2mm needles, but the result was well worth it.

So... what to knit for April? I have a pair of Chuck's Cabled Socks, also by Eunny started... but again, a rather time consuming knit. We'll see.......

Finished just in time again,. These are actually my 3rd pair of socks this month but hte first two are for magazine submissions so are top secret. One pair has been accepted and one pair I'm waiting to hear back still.

But here are my latest pair. They're called Speedway and they're my own design. These are for my daughter, Em, but I'm working on upsizing them to an adult size. The yarn is The Yarn Yard March club yarn.

My 2nd pair for March

Here are my second pair of socks for March. I actually finished them on Tuesday 27th but only just managed to photograph them. They are monkey by Cookie A, knitted in Jaeger 100% wool fingering which I found in the depths of my stash. The combination of pattern and yarn has made these a very warm pair of socks. I really enjoyed knitting this pattern and will probably knit it again but in a less busy yarn.

Second March Socks done

I managed to get a second pair of socks done for March.

They are 'Embossed Leaves' found in the new Interweave Knits Favourite Socks book.

I used maple coloured yarn by L2K and a mixture of circular needles and dpns. I changed the heel because I didn't like the original one.

I found these easier to knit than I thought they would be (once I figured out how to do the cast on!)

March Socks

These socks I knit for my mother who will start her chemo for Ovarian Cancer next month, I know Chemo patients can be cold so I mad some thick socks. I still need to block them but these baby's cover Project Spectrum & Sock-a-month 3!

Another Pair for March

I finished the seemingly endless Socka socks for DH I've been working on for months. They've been my "take in the car just in case" socks. I used the alternating 2 X 2 rib pattern from SKS. More pictures on my blog, since I still don't have a camera and the scanned images are too large to post here. They were supposed to be done for Christmas. I guess they'll be an April Fool's day present now! That's a total of 4 finished pairs in March, a new record for me. Of course it helps that two of the pairs were made in sportweight on only 56 stitches. My fingers are showing the signs of too much sock knitting, though. I poked a hole in my index finger with the needle tip.

I cast on for a pair of Monkey socks to celebrate finishing the endlessly boring socks, but they morphed into broad rib socks from the new SKS book, which arrived on my doorstep today. I love the Culture Club socks, not to mention all of the other great socks people are making!

Socks! March!

Wow, just under the wire. I was hoping to have something more interesting to show for this month, but I just didn't get done the Embossed Leaves socks that I am working on in time. So, in lieu of that, here are my March socks. They have been finished for about a week now, but I didn't get around to taking pictures until today. These are my "purse socks". I always have a pair of socks in my purse for working on whenever I have to wait somewhere, sit through a meeting, or travel somewhere (if someone else is driving of course). These will be a gift for my Mom's b-day in July.

Pattern: Vanilla Toe Up Socks (worksheet from Summer 2006 Knitty) - this is the best thing for any size toe up socks!!
Yarn - Trekking XXL (I have no idea what color as I lost the band)

Dim Sum Knitting

RPM/Culture Club Socks

Johanna and I must have been on the same wavelength this month. I made these modified RPM socks using Yarn Pirate's "Culture Club" colorway.

Here are the specs for these socks:

Yarn: Yarn Pirate's "Culture Club"
Pattern: Modified version of the RPM Socks
Two inch cuff over 64 stitches on size 0 dpns.
RMP pattern for 3.5 inches on the leg over 63 inches
Switch to stockinette for 1.5 inches
Heel flap and gusset, decreasing to 64 stitches

These socks took me forever. I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't finish these. As soon as I finished these, I started new socks and finished one of the pair last night using yarn that I've been dyeing myself.

Everyone is making such beautiful socks here; thanks for all the inspiration.

Karma Chameleon

I finished my "Karma Chameleon" socks last night, just in time for March! I'm going away for the weekend, so although they would have been the perfect "visiting project" tonight, I needed to do that toe so I could post it while I had access to my own computer! How's that for dedication?

• Knit for: my cousin who has recently moved to Canada and I think she's sad. She doesn't know yet, so I can only post that here until she gets them in the mail... don't blow the surprise!

The color repeat was SO LONG on these socks that I decided early on that sock #2 was going to be different. Just to accentuate the point that I was trying to do that, (not being lazy), I started sock #2 from the other side of the skein. Hey, who's ever seen two matching Chameleons anyways?

Notes: I only bought one skein (that's all the LYS had) and thought I could surely make a pair of ankle socks out of 50 grams of yarn. Well, I most certainly did and then some. I sure do have small feet because I'm sure I have enough left for another ankle sock! I love how they came out and I even wore them to work today :o)
