Sock a Month Knitalong 3

Did I make it in time?

Finished the second sock at 11:50 p.m. Pacific Time. Worked on it the whole day and at my little son's baseball game. Of course, I still cheered like a mad woman. They won! Woohoo!

Just under the wire....

Well I almost didn't make it. The socks had been finished for a while, but my computer was out for repair and only came back late yesterday. And then I had to reload all the programs that they had taken off when repairing the hard drive..... not fun!

So, here without further ado..... Autum in Oregon socks. I had finished one of them ages ago (i.e. last year) as a test knit for Chrissy and finally finished the second one this month. Since I am knitting a lot of other things at the moment, I am not as prolific with socks as I was lat time round.

The yarn is from vieux rouet at etsy.com, but I forgot the rest of it.

Demon Socks

My April socks were done yesterday but it still took me until the last few hours of the month to post. They're a generic toe-up sock pattern with a short row heel. The yarn is Sweet Georgia Speed Demon Sock Yarn in Elf colorway. They were quick, and I especially love these colors, despite the pooling.
Check out the details on my blog.

They're still April to me.

I know that technically it is May 1st but I want to count these socks as April socks (its my 3rd pair so it really shouldn't matter). I did 99% of them in April and I feel that finishing them at 12:28 am on May 1st and calling them May socks is just not right.

Pattern: Wavy Lace Socks from Favorite Socks

Yarn: KP Gloss Concord grape (I think)

needles: 29" Inox greys 2.25mm on toe and heel, 40" Inox express 2.5mm on most of the rest of the sock (long story that I might go into on my blog)

mod: none that I can think of right now (its too late...er, early)

Love em and plan on wearing them to work tomorrow (if I can get out of bed!)

April socks, but no photos

I've been searching for my camera cable for a week now, with no luck at all.

But I have finished two pairs of socks this month, a pair of luscious cashmere anklets for my sister in law, and a pair of tofutsies in the Tidal Wave pattern for me.

I wish I could show you the pretty picot edging on the cashmere socks. I'm almost tempted to keep them because they're so nice. It was my first time doing it, and on the second sock I decided to do a Turkish cast-on with a third cable needle as my provisional cast-on. That was so much easier to pick up, and it's certainly a trick I'll write up in my blog. It's awkward for the first row of knitting, but then it's easy coasting for the joining row.

I'm hoping that the camera cable shows up so that I can upload photos of my May socks!

Rockin' Sock Club Inside Out with STR Monsoon
One of the only negative things about this sock club is that I think it's probably pretty boring for everyone to see relatively the same socks over and over. Sorry 'bout that, but these are my April socks. I like them, but I don't love them. They are sooooo tight at the heel, I practically work up a sweat trying to put them on which of course on the positive side means they'll stay put all day! Yeah!
My first crochet cast on , short row toe and short row toe--three things I'm so happy to now list with my knitting skills!

Barely squeaking these in under the wire. Jaywalkers (my first pair!) in Fleece Artist.

I like this pattern a lot. Not sure I got the size quite right and I kind of bobbled the toes, but I adore the way this yarn striped up.

More details will be coming soon to my blog.

And another

Though I finished these a week ago, I've been quite lazy about posting.

For hubbo: 1 skein Trekking in an unknown colorway, and some leftover Paton's Kroy for the toe of sock #2.

Maybe I'll finally be more productive in May?

It's Still April!

Here they are, april socks!

I love Shepherd Sock! This is the Embers colorway. Beautiful as all of their others. My husband will have warm feet tomorrow... thanks for the extra motivation to finish them!

Zeno's Blues

You know Zeno's Paradox (or, as I know now from Wikipedia, ONE of Zeno's Paradoxes)? The one that says you can't ever reach your destination because first you need to get halfway there, and before that, 1/4 of the way, and before that, 1/8 of the way, and before that, 1/16 of the way, and before that, 1/32 of the way... and on and on forever? That's how I feel about these socks. I knit the first one early in the month, and the second one just took forever, even though I clearly made great progress on it when I managed to work on it, and didn't really have that much to do. But they're done now! Unfortunately, I may submit the design somewhere, so here's the least distinctive photo I took. Toe-up, size 2 needle (I started on dpns and switched to 1 circ), with ribs and other stuff on the cuffs. Light blue, non-superwash, 100% merino. Not much more detail on my blog, I'm afraid.

Wait for me!

My April socks are done, but it's a photo finish!

Sorry for the blurry - it's dark outside!

Project Specs:
Pattern: Elfines by Anna Bell from My Fashionable Life
Yarn: Claudia's Hand Painted in Eat Your Veggies
Needles: 5 US size 0 (2.25 mm) metal dpns
Size: CO 24 stitches at the toe in a figure-8 cast-on and increased up to 64 stitches (as written) for a ladies medium (US size 7 1/2)
Started: 16 March 2007
Finished: 30 April 2007
Pattern Mods: I didn't feel that the socks were quite secure enough with just a garter cuff, so did 4 rows of garter (knit, purl, knit, purl) followed by 10 rows of 2 x 2 rib, followed by 4 more rows of garter (knit, purl, knit, purl). I used Grumperina's super stretchy bind-off.

No photo essay until tomorrow!

My sons preschool was holding a silent auction. Cheri (owner of the Naked Sheep Knit Store) doneted this beautiful Knit-your-own-socks-basket. The basket itself was beautiful, but I thougt the basket needed two more things: a real Chrissy Gardiner Sock Kit and a pair of home made april socks! Yarn: Onlines Supersocke 100 Yarn, I used the pattern that came with the yarn.

Two-fer

This month I was able to finish two pairs of socks. First up are my first pair of Jaywalkers. These were fun to knit and incredibly relaxing as the pattern is so easy to memorize. I used Socks That Rock in the colour Mist.

Next up are the Mona socks by the indomitable Cookie A. These were a bit more of a challenge, but even more fun to knit as I love knitting lace and the more complex patterns. It also helps to have extremely well done charts like there are in Cookie's patterns. The yarn I used is Knitpicks' Essential in Dusk.

That's it for me this month!

April Socks - Mexicali Peppers

Mexicali Peppers - April

Yarn: Mexicali Peppers by Perchance to Knit
Pattern: Gentleman's Fancy Stockings by Nancy Bush in Knitting Vintage Socks
Needles: Size 1 US Knit Picks circs
Modifications: Cast on fewer stitches

I almost didn't finish these socks. I lost the faith. When I got to the heel of the second sock I was convinced I didn't have enough yarn to finish so I put them aside and knit a different sock. After finishing that sock and realizing it didn't fit, I returned to this sock and figured I'd go as far as I could and then come up with a solution. I ended up with more than enough yarn without having to change anything.

I love these socks. The yarn was so bright and cheerful. It got me through a very dreary, rainy April. The pattern is fun and easy and makes for a well fitting sock.

I'll post more details on my blog tomorrow.

Rock Star Socks

The socks have been done but I kept forgetting to post them. The pattern is my basic toe up wit a picot bind off sock. The yarn is Rock Star which is an old color way from Sunshine Yarns. I am trying to finish up socks that have been on the needles and what I call my mystery socks because I am not sure of the yarn. So they tend to become my plain let's get them done fast socks.

Oh to be in Feathers and Fans now that April's here...

Here are my April socks, the Feather and Fan Socks of Delight! Knitted in Lucia Circus from Posh Yarn. I used the feather and fan pattern from Shazza's blog and found the pattern really easy to follow. I love F & F and plan to knit lots more...

April Socks for a May Baby Shower

I knit these socks as a baby shower gift for my sister-in-law. They match a hooded cardie I made. I hope the socks will fit at the same time as the sweater. We shall see . . .

The knitty gritty:
Pattern: North Country Cotton Baby Socks (though I used acrylic, to match the cardi)
Needles: US size 3 DPNs
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft Shadows, dark moss
Mods: none (although I used smaller needles than called for--the finished socks seemed too big for baby using size 5s, even though I got gauge)

Kelley

Finished, but forgot to photograph!

I finished knitting my April socks on Wednesday and Kitchenered/sewed in ends on Saturday, but I forgot to take them outside for a photo this weekend! I'll have to do that tonight.

If I don't get my act together, my May "pair" will be mis-matched. I have two Single Socks and two more nearly-finished Single Socks: 1) Rockin Sock Club "Inside Out," 2) Flock Sock Club "Cleopatra," 3) nearly-finished "Jaywalker" in Cherry Tree Hill's Gypsy Rose colorway, and 4) nearly-finished generic toe-up in sKNITches "sKNITch" nifty self-striping colorway. Oh, not to mention the 2/3 knitted Fleece Artist "Parrot" generic top-down or the roughly half-done Monkey sock in Socks That Rock "Little Bunny Foo Foo."

All of these (I think...maybe not the Inside Out) can be seen on my blog (http://ariadnes-thread.blogspot.com), where my April socks can be seen half-finished (the Bluebell Rib yellow/green/orange/white pair).

Just in the nick of time

Finally got my April socks done. I can't believe it took me a month to get them done. They are intended as a Christmas gift for my neighbour . I've knit some socks for her previously and she was so appreciative I thought she might like another pair. The yarn is Regia Cotton Surf , colour 5418.The pattern is from Sensational Knitted Socks ( waffle rib) . I used 2,0mm DPNs.

Woe is Me...I Mean My Husband............

I was so excited when I found this kal late last month! I love knitting socks and had been knitting like crazy for my dear husband....I mean, all the time. Well, here we are, last day of the month and what did I do last night?! I FROGGED that little which I had knit on a pair of socks for my husband! Earlier in the month, when I had great ambitions I had this: as I began the new design for Lonnie's socks....Now I have nothing, nadda, no socks for April, no A by my name

But, that's okay, I'm headed back to the drawing board to begin again and I PROMISE that there will be an M by my name in May.....how embarrassing no A for me! Again, that's okay, I will hold my sock high and BEGIN AGAIN!!!! Oh Yeah!!!

FYI...I'm loving everyone's socks!! Great month, ya'll!!

Procrastinating is Bad

Yes, I know. But spinning has taken over my life. I did it though! I kitchenered the toe on my Thelonious socks last night. :)

thelonious thelonious 3

Pattern: Thelonious
Yarn: Wollmeise in Poison Nr. 5
Needles: Addi DPN in size 2.5mm
Notes: Despite the traveling lace panel these socks are still rather stretchy. I think it's all that ribbing. My foot measures 9" at the arch (because I have a crazy high arch), and 8" at the ball. Also, I ended the patterning 2.5" from the tips of my toes...because that's just the way I am. Oh, for the love of your eyes, get yourself something to magnify the chart for the leg!!! You will go BLIND squinting at the teeny-tiny symbols. lol

April Socks

I love these socks….it’s the first pair I’ve made for myself…I usually make socks and even if they were originally going to be for me I end up giving them away. Not this pair…these babies are mine. Made in a yummy hand dyed merino from Fleece Artist gifted to me by my secret pal.

April Socks finally!

They are done, done, done! These socks gave me fits. It is a simple pattern but I did all sorts of stupid things. But they match and they are done in April. Details will be on my blog in the next day or so.

Same Day, Different Sock!

I managed to finish one of my other pairs of socks today while I was riding around in a car and hanging out with some knitpals!

FO: Thuja

The pattern is Thuja, from Knitty, and the yarn is Artyarns Supermerino #102. I have 7 grams left from each ball (14 total)... so it was getting kind of close there. :)

Finally done

These socks seemed to take forever, but I did get my April socks done, in the nick of time.

Details can be found over at my blog.

Another Pair for April.

Embossed Leaves sock - yes, I broke down and bought Favorite Socks.

Strange how both pairs are done in purple yarn and I'm morally against purple and all the evilness it may be associated with it! Just kidding!

Well, it is true I'm not a huge fan of purple typically (I mean, AT ALL!), but both pairs were gifts for other people, and colors were in fact pretty.

That's all for now,

This is actually the second completed pair for me for April.
The first set was a fun pair of Roza's Socks.

April socks

I finished up my pair of socks for the month. These are the left twist portion of the "Diagonal Twist Socks" from Favorite Socks. The pattern is a bit obscure with the yarn, but as they are for a friend who loves purple, I don't think she'll mind too much.

April socks - done!

And just in time for April SAM3. These are my first toe up socks. I made them for my little girl (although she hates the socks, she loves the yarn especially all that pink!). I used the generic toe up sock pattern from Knitty.com. The yarn is Lana Grossa Meilenwet. I didn't even try to make them matching but they just turned up that way. Onwards to socks for May!

Lots of socks

Rather than post all the socks after the first pair this month, I thought I would just show you the last pair completed - Niagara Falls from Chameleon Color Works.
Niagara Falls Knit out of sock yarn woll, 2,5 mm needles over 60 stitches. I changed the pattern; alternating bands of the lace with stockinette on the tops.
The seven pairs in between can be found at Proseknitic.

Oh My Gosh....me and the last minute!

Phew! Again.....got it done just in time (though technically these socks are for my Mom for Mother's Day, so really they are done early! So no stats on my blog for now! I will post my info here til they are gifted!). You will probably laugh at me, but like two weeks ago, when I was in the car, I almost freaked out, thinking I didn't have any socks going and was not going to get my pair done for April! (I know, I am such a silly girl!)

Stats:
Rainy Day Socks from MagKnits
Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn in Grass Green
Size 4 DPNs
Started: March 28th
Finished: April 29th

They were very quick to knit...LOVE the yarn, so soft and squishy and quick to knit with. I hit a snag when I was almost done with the first sock, I messed up the number of heel decreases (not even sure how....I have knit enough socks to know better) so I started the second one and had to rip a bit and reconfigure (I didnt have the heart to rip all the lace repeats, so I just changed the number of stitches per needle and did one extra decrease since I had two odd stitches out.) They fit great, and I can't wait to give them to my Mom!
Now, to plot some alternate patterns for the STR BMFA Club Yarn and my Scout's Indie Swag yarn.....anybody got any good suggestions? I am all ears! Happy May everyone!
